Yamaha Ténéré 700: Specs, Price & Who It’s For

Yamaha Ténéré 700 World Raid adventure bike parked on a dirt field track

The yamaha ténéré 700 is a midsize adventure bike built around a 689cc parallel twin, with a 34.4 in seat and a 2025 US starting MSRP of $10,999. Yamaha calls it a lightweight, no compromise adventure bike with outstanding reliability. A reviewer describes it as competent off-road, comfortable on pavement, and best for midsize ADV buyers focused on value. It fits riders who want one bike for both road and dirt.

It is a poor match if you need a light dirt bike or a fuel-economy figure, because Yamaha lists fuel economy as TBD.

Yamaha Ténéré 700 Overview

Most buyers will see the 2025 model. The 2025 update brought a new 6.3-inch vertical TFT screen, a quad-LED headlight, new side covers, a tail section, color-matched handguards and a flatter rally-inspired seat. Those changes center on the screen, lighting, bodywork and seat.

The core pitch is one bike for mixed riding. The reviewer calls it almost like an oversized dual sport bike. Yamaha’s own description stresses light weight and reliability, so the specs below show how those claims hold up.

Yamaha Ténéré 700 Engine & Performance

The engine is a fuel-injected, 689cc liquid-cooled, DOHC inline twin. Yamaha calls it the CP2, a parallel twin with a 240-degree crank. The engine is derived from the MT-07.

Yamaha says the counterbalanced design delivers smooth, broad power. The engine has four valves per cylinder, or 8 valves total. A shorter intake duct improves torque and power in the low-to-mid rpm range. That is where most trail and town riding happens.

Power numbers come from two places. Yamaha’s claim and the Cycle World dyno result are below.

Source Power Torque
Yamaha claim 72.4 hp at 9000 rpm 50 lb-ft at 6500 rpm
Cycle World dyno, 2025 61.2 hp at 9190 rpm 42.6 lb.-ft. at 6450 rpm
2024 T7, Cycle World dyno 62.5 hp Not listed

The dyno results come in lower than Yamaha’s claims on both measures. The 2024 T7 made 62.5 hp on the same dyno, just above the 2025 Ténéré 700’s 61.2 hp. Treat the dyno figures as the more conservative reference.

The six-speed transmission uses a wet multiplate clutch and a chain final drive. A chain needs regular cleaning and adjustment, so budget time for that. The 2025 model is prewired for Yamaha’s accessory quickshifter.

Fuel economy is a gap in the data. Yamaha lists it as TBD, with figures estimated. Plan your range around the tank size and the reviewer’s estimate instead.

Chassis & Ergonomics

The table below lists the main chassis figures.

Item Spec
Wheelbase 62.8 in
Ground clearance 9.4 in
Seat height (2025) 34.4 in
Front suspension 43mm KYB inverted fork, fully adjustable, 8.3 in travel
Rear suspension KYB single shock with linkage, 7.9 in travel
Front brakes Brembo 4-piston calipers, dual 282mm discs
Rear brake Brembo 2-piston caliper, 245mm disc
Front wheel and tire 21-inch spoked, 90/90R21 Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR
Rear wheel and tire 18-inch spoked, 150/70R18 Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR
Fuel tank 4.2 gal

Weight is the figure to check first. Yamaha lists 455 lb wet for the 2025 model, and another listing gives 459 lb with all fluids and a full tank. Yamaha also claims 470 lbs wet. Cycle World weighed a 2025 model at 473 lb with accessory crashbars fitted, before dyno testing.

If you plan to fit crashbars, use the 473 lb figure for planning.

The seat is 34.4 in tall on the 2025 model. One listing gives 34.6 in. The flatter one-piece seat keeps the same overall height as before. A lower seat helps shorter riders and beginners touch down at stops.

Yamaha also offers a shorter seat as an accessory.

The narrow body, slim fuel tank and flat seat let you grip the tank whether you sit or stand. The fairing and handguards work with the tapered handlebar for comfort on long rides. A tall windscreen comes with the bike. The 2025 clutch cover adds legroom, and the footpegs are longer and wider.

The front fork is a 43mm KYB inverted unit. It is fully adjustable and offers compression, rebound and preload adjustment. The updated 43mm fork now includes a preload adjuster.

The rear uses a KYB single shock with a remote preload adjuster. It has rebound damping. Yamaha’s listing calls the rear fully adjustable, while another description limits adjustment to rebound and preload. Either way, you can set preload and rebound.

The 9.4 in ground clearance and 8.3 in of front travel matter on rough ground. Riders who ride gravel and ruts will notice the difference from a street bike.

Yamaha Ténéré 700 Features

The 2025 display is a new vertically oriented 6.3-inch TFT with full-color graphics and Y-Connect use. It has STREET and EXPLORER themes. The 2024 model used a five-inch TFT dash with a rally-inspired vertical mounting position. The 2024 model also had LED turn signals.

Y-Connect supports music, calls through an aftermarket Bluetooth headset, and turn-by-turn navigation. On the 2024 model, the app also tracked fuel consumption history, last parking location, maintenance alerts and a riding log. The quad-LED headlight is new for 2025.

Ride modes come from the YCC-T ride-by-wire system. It offers two throttle maps, Sport and Explorer. Traction control is selectable on or off. Rider aids are limited to switchable traction control and ABS.

ABS has three modes on the 2025 model. Mode 1 is active at both wheels. Mode 2 is active at the front wheel only, with ABS off on the rear. Mode 3 turns ABS off at both wheels.

You change ABS on the 2024 model with a right-side thumb scroll switch. An ABS ON button next to the TFT lets you turn it back on quickly, but you must be stopped to use it. Yamaha advises riding paved roads with ABS on. For pavement, leave Mode 1 set.

The brakes use dual 282mm hydraulic discs with selectable ABS at the front. The rear has a 245mm hydraulic disc with selectable ABS.
